About Rapid River Knifeworks
Why our new Name?
Established in the spring of 2002, Rapid River Knifeworks seems pre-destined to become the next great producer of high quality custom knives. When someone asks, "were you born in a barn?" they can truly say yes. Partners Scott Honkonen and Kris Duerson set up their first shop in the barn of Rick Duerson (Kris' father) just north of Rapid River, MI. With a lot of skill, a few pieces of machinery and some really big dreams, the guys developed a line of custom knives that combine beauty with strength and practical usability. They were confident that sportsmen and women would respond favorably to a line of high quality hunting and fishing knives that you can really use in the field without sacrificing the great looks of a knife you’d be proud to display on your mantle.
Boy, were they right! Response to the products was immediate, widespread and overwhelmingly favorable. So much so that less than six months later, it was time to move into a bigger location. So, Rapid River Knifeworks went up town. Up town Rapid River, that is. Now, with a retail location on US 2 and four employees in the shop, Rapid River Knifeworks is a great American success story. In addition to the their popular "line" of knives, Rapid River Knifeworks now makes dozens of one-of-a-kind custom knives every week and is currently working on new models that add more variety to the "line" of knives offered in large quantities to high profile dealers.
So confident are they that their knives will stand the test of time, Scott and Kris established a warranty policy that covers each and every knife they build. With over two thousand knives built and sold in the first year of the company, they have yet to have their first warranty claim.
